High Expectations

At the beginning of the year I began using reusable grocery sacks when I go to the market. I’m not sure why I started doing this as I haven’t ever been a big recycler; but for some reason doing so makes me feel better – so I do it.

Somehow though, once you switch from plastic to reusable bags, bagging etiquette flies out the window. Cold items are rarely packed together. Your cleaning items are usually hidden at the bottom of the bag, but usually always on top of your bread items; this way you get to taste your cleaning scents as you try to eat your puzzle sandwich. Sometimes your eggs are placed in the bag sideways. And since reusable bags carry more, it must be a sign of defiance if you leave any room exposed in the bag. It can have 12 can goods, 2 two liters, a 5lb bag of sugar and they still look to stuff more in.

Maybe my previous cashier experience is so engrained in me that my standards are too high, or I could just be cantankerous – I hear that happens with age.
